Dry Needling
Dry needling is an effective therapeutic technique for relieving muscle tension and pain. The technique involves inserting a small, sterile solid-filament needle into the skin and muscle directly into a trigger point.
A Trigger point is what some think of as a “knot” in the muscle tissue. They can develop from injury, dysfunction, and overuse. An active trigger point limits your ability to strengthen, stretch, or contract the muscle, and, as the muscle shortens/compresses the surrounding tissue, causes pain.
The goal of dry needling is to release these trigger points by causing a twitch response within the muscle, thereby releasing tension and pain.
Dry needling is used to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems including, leg, back, headaches, jaw and dental pain.
Manipulative Medicine
A hands-on therapeutic approach used to ease pain, promote healing and increase overall mobility. Often includes moving a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques that include stretching, gentle pressure and resistance to muscle tissues to allow the body to move and strengthen better. These techniques can help:
- Treat structural and tissue abnormalities
- Relieve joint restriction and misalignment
- Restore muscle and tissue balance
Some common types include:
- Joint mobilization
- Visceral mobilization
- Soft Tissue Mobilization
- Myofascial release
- Therapeutic exercise
Although often used to treat muscle pain, the treatment can also help patients with a number of other health problems such as:
- Asthma
- Sinus disorders
- Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Migraines
- Menstrual pain
Women's Health
Many women will experience pelvic health issues in their life. Pelvic issues can cause embarrassment, pain, discomfort, and will change normal activities. Just because these are common doesn’t mean they should affect how you live your daily life. Often women fail to seek care for these disorders because of lack of information, the belief that pelvic floor problems are part of normal aging. SparkPT specializes in diagnosing the source of your pain and selecting the most effective treatment to achieve a successful outcome.
